Can We Really Be What We Want To Be?

Group's overall research question: Does going to college mean a better salary, and is it worth going to college for one?

My Hypothesis: I think that college is a major contributor to salary but forces students to deviate from their desired careers for the sake of money.

Is Going For That Degree Worth All That Green?

I am interested in this topic obviously because I am a Senior in high-school and as such this applies to me. However, I also hope to do something in design for my career and this is something that has been on my mind for a long time. I hope that what I discover is both informative and persuasive to my own decision but I also hope all that I find isn't disheartening to my own pursuits. All in all, I really just hope to discover why jobs like design, which require quite a bit of talent and training, are such low paying career paths.

Questions:

1. What do people who base their career paths solely on money think of their jobs?

2. Is there too much pressure placed on monetary gain rather than pursuing your dream?

3. It is overly idealistic to think that jobs that don't make a lot, yet require a college degree, could have better salaries in the future?

4. Why do jobs like design and dance offer such low salaries?

5. What do you tell someone who wishes to pursue a degree that won't give them a good job opportunity?
