As it turns out, the Government is working hard to combat antibiotic resistance in both livestock and humans. This is important as this misuse could lead to a type of bacteria that is unstoppable by even the most powerful drug. The government needs to persuade people to limit their use of these drugs to the prescribed amount and keep physicians from over prescribing as well.
According to the FDA, they “have launched several initiatives to address antibiotic resistance.” These include labeling regulations and counseling for patients who are taking the drugs. They emphasize prudent use of them for fear of resistance.

This is a step in the right direction, however, I think that the government needs to do more than just encourage the appropriate use of these drugs. For a potential problem as dangerous as this one, the government needs to get it right and do it immediately. There is no room for error in a situation like this.
