Q: How does Islam view wealth itself as a part of our lives? Is it a part of our happiness?
A: Islam views that wealth is a pleasure of this life and it is a pleasure that can easily distract you. A Muslim is supposed to deal with his wealth as if it is merely a worldly object. Islam emphasizes the afterlife and therefore removes the value of wealth in this life and the things you purchase with it. The Quran warns not to hoard wealth and to beware of greed. A Muslim's wealth isn’t supposed to be preserved but spent towards those who are in need of it in the form of Zakat.Wealth can help make this life more enjoyable yes but that shouldn't be the major focus of wealth, helping others and your family is. If that makes you happy than it is simply a nice benefit.
Q: How does Islam view the ways in which people must earn wealth? What are the rules or requirements for it?
A: In Islam all wealth must be obtained in a lawful, or hala, way to be permitted in a Muslim's life and spending. Wealth cannot be obtained through the selling of certain forbidden products like alcohol and pork along with illegal products.
Q: Islam has a strong emphasis on charity, can you explain that?
A: Every Muslim who is financially capable is required by one of the Five Pillars of Islam to donate charity to the needy in the from of Zakat. Every person must send a portion of their wealth to those who are in financial distress or in poverty. 2.5% of savings must be donated annually to meet the requirement of Zakat.
