Is it fair that professional athletes get paid so much?

I am interested in learning about athletes and their salaries. I want to research why athletes get paid so much money and if going to college makes a difference in their salaries.  Most major athletes probably blew off school and getting a good education because they knew that they were good at sports, but is that worth the risk of possibly not making it to the professional level? However, for the ones who do make it to the professional level, why do they get paid so much
