All my life I have been told that in order to get far in life, I have to go to college. But I am starting to see that is not the case. Many people in this era who are extremely successful, have dropped out of college, or didn't bother attending in the first place. The same is true for many well known chefs. According to Anthony Bourdain, well known for his shows on the travel channel, he states that, “Before you sign up for all that debt, he says, “You should go work in a kitchen and make sure you really, truly want to be a chef.” He doesn't say that culinary school is a waste, but that you would need to have a lot of dedication and have to deal with the fact “there's serious debt involved.” I personally agree with Anthony on this, because with my generation, just having a college diploma will not guarantee me a job.

Top reasons not to go to Culinary School
- Large amount of debt will have to be paid.
- You aren't guaranteed a job in a restaurant, you have a better chance of getting a job at a place like McDonald's.
- Most Even if you are able to get a job at a restaurant, you will start as a dishwasher, and you will not work with food for awhile.
Donovan, I understand the idea that chefs do not necessarily have to go to culinary school to become successful. I agree that the best way to make it in the restaurant world is to get hands-on experience to build your skills, something that schools cannot entirely emulate. However, if you ever want to own your own restaurant, where would you plan on getting the business knowledge to do so if you don't attend college?
